Staying at Mole Motel: Waking Up To Wildlife
One of my favourite parts about visiting Mole National Park in Ghana is staying at Mole Motel.
It is one of those places where the accommodation makes the experience so much more enjoyable. From the moment you arrive, there is notable calmness which is such a contrast having just arrived from the hustle and bustle of Kumasi.
The motel sits within Mole National Park, surrounded by open savannah, trees and wildlife at every turn.
The real highlight though, is waking up and realising that your safari has started without having to go anywhere at all. From the back terrace or just by opening your door, it’s not uncommon to see antelope grazing, baboons causing chaos, birds chasing each other around, warthogs trundling along or even an African Elephant up close and personal.
The atmosphere in the evening is something you cannot beat. As the sun begins to set, everything slows down. The landscape changes colour and there is a peaceful feeling that is hard to describe unless you have experienced it for yourself. It is one of those moments where everyone pauses to just take it all in.
The rooms themselves are simple but comfortable nonetheless. The beds are great and most of the rooms are air conditioned. The focus is on location rather than luxury, but you are not there to spend time indoors, rather to experience everything outside that the park has to offer. With that being said, there are no faults with the accommodation itself and the staff at Mole Motel go above and beyond to make you feel at home.
One of my favourite memories of staying at Mole Motel was swimming in the pool minding my own business then suddenly, I turn around and a ginormous African Elephant was behind me. It was incredible.
The food on site at Mole Motel’s restaurant is a great combination of local dishes and western classics from Banku to Pizza & Burgers, you won’t go hungry. The prices are affordable and portions are large. Their is also a bar with a limited selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks.
If you’re thinking of visiting Mole National Park, Mole Motel is a must. It allows you to be connected with nature from the get go until you depart and get some incredible up-close moments with animals. What more could you ask for?
