‘We Will Rock You’ Rocks The Kings Theatre

I have never wanted to get back to my seat so quickly after the interval bell had rung. What a performance!

Portsmouth Theatre’s production of We Will Rock You brought the Kings Theatre to life tonight, with the venue filled with an energy that was impossible to ignore. From the opening moments, it was clear that this was going to be a production packed with talent, enthusiasm and, of course, some of the greatest music ever written.

Portsmouth was shining tonight, showcasing an incredible amount of local talent and performers who had so much to offer. The cast threw themselves into the production, delivering a performance full of energy, personality and plenty of those big musical moments that We Will Rock You demands. There was a real sense of enjoyment coming from the stage, and that enthusiasm quickly spread throughout the auditorium.

And then there was the music. The band were incredible. Queen’s music is certainly no small challenge, but the musicians rose to it brilliantly, providing a powerful soundtrack that filled the Kings Theatre and gave the production the scale it deserved. When those familiar opening notes rang out, there was an unmistakable feeling of excitement around the auditorium.

The stage itself was equally electric, with the production making great use of the Kings Theatre space. There was a real sense of spectacle throughout, perfectly suited to a show built around some of the biggest rock anthems of all time. The combination of the cast, musicians, staging and atmosphere created some truly memorable moments.

What stood out most, however, was the sheer passion behind the production. This felt like a company that genuinely wanted to be there and wanted to tell this story. That passion is infectious, and it made for an evening where the audience could simply sit back, enjoy themselves and sing along to some of Queen’s most iconic songs.

By the time the final notes had played, the response from the audience said it all. It was loud, enthusiastic and thoroughly deserved.

The Portsmouth company should be incredibly proud of what they have created. We Will Rock You is a show that needs energy, confidence and a love of live performance, and this production delivered all three in abundance.

The Kings Theatre was absolutely rocking tonight, and it is safe to say this is one we will never forget.
